Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff's Office will be working overtime this holiday season cracking down on substance-impaired drivers. As part of the national Holiday DWI Enforcement "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, deputies may be conducting saturation patrols and safety checkpoints throughout Lewis County.
Members of the Sheriff's Office want everyone to have a safe and happy holiday season. So remember don't make the terrible decision to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Statistically, twenty-five percent of all Missouri traffic crashes in 2014 involved a substance-impaired driver. The Holiday Weekend can be a particularly dangerous time due to more vehicles on the roadways and the number of impaired drivers is also increased because of holiday festivities.
Research has shown that high visibility enforcement reduces the number of substance-impaired drivers on the roadways. In addition to regular patrols, deputies may be conducting patrol saturations and safety checkpoints throughout Lewis County.
Remember, while you are out this holiday season, don't take the risk of operating under the influence so we can all enjoy the holidays.
