The Sheriff's Office provides the conceal and carry permits to Lewis County residents as provided by Missouri Law. While the statute changes every year, generally speaking a resident is eligible to become a conceal and carry permit holder once you reach the age of 19. Before applying for the permit, you must complete a firearms safety course by an instructor approved by the Sheriff. After receiving the training an applicant should contact the Sheriff's Office to schedule an appointment. At this appointment you will need to provide proof of a completed firearms safety course and a valid form of Missouri identification. You will then be fingerprinted by use of a Livescan computer. This information is then forwarded to the NICS center. The Sheriff's Office has forty-five days to complete the background investigation. After you are approved you will receive a conceal and carry card provided by the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
