Since 1995, the Sheriff's Office has been a sponsor of the Law Enforcement Soccer League. This league was formed under the direction of Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Jake DeCoster. With the help of parents, local businesses, and local law enforcement officers, children pre-K through sixth grade participate in a two month soccer league. This league has been essential in fostering a different but positive relationship between elementary students and law enforcement. Parents, grandparents and members of the general public have the opportunity to also see law enforcement in a different role.
This league is offered at no charge to approximately 300 to 400 children every fall thanks to the support of the public and local businesses. Generally league sign up and waiver forms are available at the beginning of each school year at both Highland Elementary School and Canton Elementary School.
