Former Lewis County Sheriff Robert L. Whitmer, age 79, passed away at the Country Aire Retiremen Estates in Lewistown, Missouri.  Sheriff Whitmer served the citizens of Lewis County  as Sheriff from 1981 to 1993.  He, along with his wife Chris and their children lived and worked in the Sheriff's residence and jail during this time.  Sheriff Whitmer and his wife somehow managed to answer calls, dispatch, investigate crime, feed the inmates, and continue to raise a family.  All under one roof.  Sheriff Whitmer's commitment to the citizens of Lewis County will always be remembered. 

Graveside services with military honors by American Legion Post #578 of Lewistown will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Little Mountain Cemetery in Monticello, Missouri with Dan Campbell officiating.  Friends are invited to attend services.
