On  November 9, 2021, the Sheriff's Office was called to a farm located north of Monticello at approximately  4:30am.  A resident had located a male subject in a drug induced state wandering in the yard of his residence.  The subject was speaking incoherently and was uncooperative.

Upon arrival, the deputy arrested Douglas K. Howes, age 50, of  rural La Belle, Missouri on two outstanding Lewis County warrants.  Mr. Howes was wanted for failing to appear on a prior trespass case and for stealing fuel from County Market Express in Lewistown.  After being taken into custody, the deputy applied for further warrants for trespass and peace disturbance. 

Assistant  Prosecutor Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges and a warrant was subsequently issued by Judge Moon for trespass and peace disturbance. 

Mr. Howes remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of $1250 cash only bond on all counts. 

Mr. Howes is currently out of the Missouri  Department of Corrections on parole.  Since his release, he has been arrested on several occasions leading to the above mentioned charges.  Previously, Mr. Howes had been sentenced to 3 years in the Missouri  Department of Corrections for possession of controlled substance.  Mr. Howes is a known felon and has numerous prior felony convictions and has served several prison sentences in the past.
