On February 7, 2021, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a stolen vehicle out of Adams County, Illinois.  The stolen vehicle was spotted on Highway 61 in Missouri, heading north bound, and was subsequently stopped in Lewis County by an officer with the La Grange Police Department.  The officer and a Lewis County deputy identified the occupant as Terry Benton, age 45, of Huntsville, Texas.  He was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and, upon further investigation, he was also found in possession of methamphetamine.

Mr. Benton was formally charged with one count of receiving stolen property, a class D felony and one count of possession of a controlled substance, namely  methamphetamine , a class D felony. 

Mr. Benton remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 cash only bond.
