On December 9, 2020, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Canton Police Department, executed search warrants on three homes in Canton, Missouri in relation to several theft investigations. The Sheriff's Office and Canton Police Department has received multiple reports of catalytic converters being cut from exhaust systems from several vehicles. This includes vehicles parked at MFA in Canton, at Mid-America Diesel in rural Canton and NAPA Auto, also outside of Canton, over the past week. Many of these converters were sold to local metal recycling businesses. After completion of these residences, two arrests were made.
Franklin W Gollaher, Jr., age 34, of Canton, Missouri was arrested on one count of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a class D felony. Mr. Gollaher remains lodged in the Clark County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash only bond.
Also arrested was Shawn P. Shannon, age 33, of Canton, Missouri on one count of receiving stolen property, a class D felony. Mr. Shannon remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 cash only bond. Mr. Shannon is currently under the supervision of the Missouri Division of Probation and Parole.
