SCAM ALERT |
| Several Lewis County residents have received calls from scammers advising them their social security accounts have been tampered with in some way. The scammers attempt to gain personal information and financial information. Do not give this information!!
The scammers have also spoofed the Lewis County Sheriff's Office phone number so it may appear that the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement number. This is not true.
Any resident who has received this type of call and who has given any personal information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 573-767-5287. Residents should also contact their financial institutions and the Social Security Administration to report potential fraudulent attempts on their accounts. The phone number is 800-269-0217 or their website is oig.ssa.gov/report.
All citizens are reminded to never give any personal or financial information over the phone or internet unless you have initiated the contact.
