During the past few weeks the Sheriff's Office has conducted sex offender compliance checks throughout Lewis County. Currently, the Sheriff's Office monitors 28 sex offenders who are required to regularly register in person at the Sheriff's Office. Missouri law also requires that the Sheriff's Office physically inspect the home place of the person required to register. Sex offenders are also required to provide their work place, vehicles they drive or own, all telephone numbers and all online profile information.
The Sheriff's Office conducts these checks two times per year unless something suspicious occurs.
One registrant was found incompliant with the registration requirement. This matter will be referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further disposition.
