Prosecuting Attorney

Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney
The current Prosecuting Attorney for Lewis County is Chelsea L. Fellinger, who began her term as Prosecuting Attorney in January 2023.
Mrs. Fellinger is a longtime resident of Lewis County and a graduate of Canton R-V High School. She continued her education locally at Culver-Stockton College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, before attending Valparaiso University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor degree in 2017.
Mrs. Fellinger began serving the citizens of Lewis County in 2018, when she joined the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney under longtime Prosecuting Attorney Jules V. DeCoster. During her years as an assistant prosecutor, she gained extensive experience in criminal prosecution, case preparation, courtroom proceedings, and working closely with local and state law enforcement agencies.
In 2022, Mrs. Fellinger was elected Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney, and she assumed the duties of the office in January 2023. As Prosecuting Attorney, she represents the State of Missouri in criminal matters filed in Lewis County and works closely with law enforcement agencies throughout the area in the investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses. Her office also plays an important role in reviewing criminal investigations, determining appropriate charges, representing the State in court proceedings, and helping ensure victims of crime are represented throughout the criminal justice process.
Mrs. Fellinger's public service expanded further in May 2026, when Circuit Judge Matthew Wilson appointed her to serve as Interim Prosecuting Attorney for Knox County. She was sworn into the additional position on May 21, 2026, while continuing to serve as the elected Prosecuting Attorney for Lewis County.
Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Fellinger has worked alongside the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, area police departments, and other criminal justice agencies in cases ranging from routine criminal matters to lengthy felony investigations and federal jury trials.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office values the professional working relationship between our agency and Mrs. Fellinger and the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Effective communication and cooperation between law enforcement and prosecutors are essential to the successful investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses, protection of victims, and preservation of public safety.
We look forward to continuing that partnership in the ongoing pursuit of justice and service to the citizens of Lewis County.
