Details: On April 23, 2025, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office formally arrested Samuel D Schuring, age 20, of Quincy, Illinois in relation to an incident that began in Maywood, Missouri on November 30, 2024. Schuring had previously been held in the Adam's County Jail since December and has several pending charges remaining.
This arrest is a result of a collaborative investigation conducted by the Lewis County Sherif's Office, Quincy Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
On November 30, 2024 at approximately 3:49 am, a resident of Maywood caught several individuals attempting to steal things from the victim's vehicle, which was parked in their driveway. The resident confronted the suspects who then fled the scene. One of the suspects fired a weapon into the air as they fled. The resident then followed the suspects into West Quincy and identified the vehicle and license plate. It was later discovered it had been stolen out of Quincy. The suspects fired a weapon and struck the resident's vehicle.
The Quincy Police Department later located Samuel Schuring and a co-defendant and took them into custody in relation to Illinois charges. The suspects were interviewed and Schuring was identified as the primary suspect and shooter.
Deputy Jason Slater then sought charges through the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney.
On December 9, 2024, Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges that included; Unlawful Use of a Weapon, a class B Felony; Armed Criminal Action, an unclassified Felony; Receiving Stolen Property, a class D Felony; Possession of a Controlled Substance - Hydrocodone, a class D Felony; Tampering with a Motor Vehicle - 3rd Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, and Stealing, a class A Misdemeanor.
The Honorable Judge Corey Moon issued an arrest warrant on December 9, 2024, setting the bond at $100,000 cash only.
Mr. Schuring remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of the cash only bond.
