Failure to Register as a Sex Offender Arrest
On February 16, 2023, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office arrested Jonathan G. Eckert, age 35 of Canton, Missouri for failure to register as a sex offender after receiving information regarding an unreported Snapchat account. After investigation into the alleged Snapchat account, it was found that Mr. Eckert had a new phone number that was also not reported.
Prosecutor Chelsea Fellinger made application for a felony warrant, and the Honorable Judge Corey Moon issued a warrant for one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a class D felony
Mr. Eckert was previously arrested in August, 2022, by the Lewis County Sheriff's Office for failure to register as a sex offender after conducting an investigation into his use of social media. Mr. Eckert had failed to report an email and Facebook account. Mr. Eckert was issued a warrant for one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a class D felony. Mr. Eckert posted a $5000 cash only bond at that time.
Currently, Mr. Eckert remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash only bond.
Mr. Eckert faces charges in Schuyler County, Missouri of Child Molestation-1st degree, a class A felony, Statutory Sodomy/Attempted Statutory Sodomy-person less than 14, an unclassified felony, and Fail to Register as a Sex Offender, a class E felony. At the time of his arrest, he was on house arrest and required to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
