On December 31, 2023 at approximately 3:30pm the Lewis County Sheriff's Office was called to a domestic disturbance on Willow Street in rural La Grange, Missouri.  The victim reported being assaulted by her husband, Timothy L Stewart Jr., age 28, while they were driving to the residence.  Prior to law enforcement's arrival, Stewart had left the area after taking the witness's phone.

At 5:30pm, law enforcement was called back to the residence because, once again, Stewart had returned to the residence and assaulted the victim dragging her out of the trailer and also assaulted a witness.  Stewart then fled into the wooded area near the Wakonda State Park.  Numerous agencies responded and attempted to capture Stewart.  Mr. Stewart had already fled to Quincy, Illinois.  Deputies then applied for formal charges.

On January 1, 2024, Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger filed formal felony charges.  The Honorable Cory Moon then issued a warrant for Mr. Stewart's arrest.  Mr. Stewart faces formal charges of Domestic Assault-1st Degree, a class B Felony, one count of Stealing, a class D felony and Assault-3rd degree, a class E Felony.

Stewart was arrested in Quincy, Illinois and after waiving extradition, was transported to the Lewis County Jail where he remains lodged on no bond.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the La Grange Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Quincy Police Department and Ralls County Sheriff's Department.
